Before driving away with your rental car, check five things: the car’s condition (walk round it and note any marks), the fuel level, that you know the controls, that the rental agreement and vehicle documents are in the car, and the 24/7 emergency number. At Ercan Airport, Falak Rent A Car goes through these with you at handover in Northern Cyprus.
By the Falak Rent A Car Editorial Team – 8 years of practical experience in Northern Cyprus vehicle rental, Ercan Airport arrivals and vehicle collection.
The few minutes between signing the rental agreement and pulling out of the car park are the most important of your hire. A careful check now avoids disputes later, makes sure you can drive confidently on unfamiliar roads, and means you know who to call if anything happens. Here is the checklist we recommend for every customer collecting a car at Ercan Airport.
What should I check before driving away with my rental car?
Check the vehicle’s condition, fuel level, controls, documentation and the emergency contact before you leave. These are the same points our Ercan Airport representative goes through at handover, after the rental agreement is completed, the named drivers are recorded and the deposit and conditions are explained.
| Check | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Condition | Walk round the car: bodywork, bumpers, wheels, mirrors, windscreen and the interior. Point out any existing marks so they are noted before you leave. |
| Fuel level | Note the fuel gauge reading at collection, so you know the level to return it with under your agreement. |
| Controls | Lights, indicators, wipers, air conditioning, mirrors and seat position – and, in an automatic or hybrid, how the gear selector works. |
| Documentation | Your copy of the rental agreement and the vehicle documents are in the car. |
| Emergency contact | Save the 24/7 number, +90 548 874 30 58, in your phone before you set off. |
How do I check the car’s condition at collection?
Walk all the way round the car in good light and look at each panel, the bumpers, the wheels and the glass, then check the seats and dashboard inside. Raise anything you notice with the representative before you drive away. Many travellers also take a few photos on their phone as their own record.
Who is allowed to drive the rental car?
Only the drivers named in the rental agreement may drive the vehicle; anyone else may fall outside the insurance cover. The minimum driver age is 25. If someone else in your group will share the driving, make sure they are named in the agreement at handover – not after you have left. Insurance cover depends on the rental agreement, so review the terms before booking.
What about child seats and extra equipment?
If you asked for a child seat or booster seat, check it is fitted and secure before you set off. Child seats and booster seats are available when requested in advance, so mention them when you book along with any mobility or vehicle-access needs. See car rental with child seats in Cyprus.
Is driving in North Cyprus different for visitors?
Yes – in Northern Cyprus you drive on the left, which is unfamiliar to many visitors. Before leaving the car park, take a moment to adjust the seat and mirrors, find the indicators and lights, and plan your first route – for example to Lefkosa/Nicosia, Girne/Kyrenia or Gazimagusa/Famagusta – so you are not reading a map while getting used to the roads.
What should I know about payment and the deposit?
Payment is made when the vehicle is collected, by cash or card. A deposit applies depending on the vehicle and model, and the deposit and rental conditions are explained before you drive away. Pricing is based on the vehicle category and rental period, with minimum pricing on a three-day rental basis.
How does collection at Ercan Airport work?
Your car is handed over at Ercan Airport around your confirmed flight time, so there is no trip to a separate city-centre rental office. The steps are:
- Book online or by phone/WhatsApp with your pick-up date, flight time and return details.
- On arrival at Ercan Airport, meet the Falak representative at the arrivals exit and go to the agreed handover point.
- Complete the rental agreement; named drivers are recorded and the deposit and conditions explained.
- Pay on collection, by cash or card.
- Inspect the vehicle – condition, fuel level, controls, documentation and emergency contact – then drive away.
- Use 24/7 contact and roadside assistance for the whole rental.
- Return the car to Ercan Airport at the agreed time.
There is no extra parking charge for the handover. Read more about car hire at Ercan Airport.
Illustrative example
Illustrative scenario, not a testimonial. A visitor lands at Ercan Airport and collects an economy car for a week. At handover they walk round the car with the representative, note the fuel level, check the air conditioning and lights, confirm the agreement is in the glovebox and save the 24/7 number – then travel independently between their accommodation, the coast and local attractions.
